When customizing your decals, you can choose between two different finishes: Gloss or Matte. As the names suggest, gloss decals have a shiny finish, while matte decals have a flat, non-reflective look.

In most cases, we recommend choosing a decal finish that matches the surface it will be applied to. This creates a cleaner, more integrated look and makes the decals feel like a natural part of the bike rather than an add-on. 

For example:

• If your fork has a gloss finish, we recommend gloss fork decals.
• If your fork has a matte finish, we recommend matte fork decals.
  

Matching the finishes usually delivers the best visual result.  But – if you have a high gloss frame, you might want the wheel decals to pop with the same shine. It’s up to you in the end!

And what if I go with Real Stealth decals? 

Real Stealth decals are all black with a mix of matte and gloss finishes to create a subtle, tone-on-tone effect. When choosing a finish for Real Stealth decals, you should choose your base based on the finish of the surface they will be applied to.

• Gloss surface = choose gloss base.
• Matte surface = choose matte base.
  

This ensures the intended contrast and effect are preserved once the decals are installed.

The exceptions

Exception 1: Die-cut decals

Of course, things are never as straightforward as that. Some decals are ‘die-cut’ meaning they are cut out as individual letters/symbols and have no background, and therefore no background finish. For die-cut decals (for example; Enve SES, Zipp etc.) the finish will apply to the decal itself – and not the background. Check the products specs to know if the decals are die-cut or not.

Exception 2: Black Premium foils

To complicate things further – in premium foils you will find matte black as an option. If you choose matte black as a ‘colour’, you have to select gloss as the finish. Similarly, if you choose the foil black (which is glossy) you have to select matte as the finish.
